“Initially, I couldn’t believe they would actually tie the knot at Madison Square Garden. It’s so overtly attention-seeking and just plain tacky,” Kelly remarked to Daily Mail columnist Maureen Callahan on Thursday.
The couple’s wedding, which was a star-studded and multi-day affair, drew both praise and criticism. The festivities caused street closures in midtown Manhattan and reportedly cost millions of dollars.
The wedding commenced on Friday and was scheduled to continue until 4 a.m. ET on Saturday, Independence Day, as per the city permit reviewed by the Associated Press.
Callahan, a critic of the event, described it as “a 7-year-old’s fantasy of a grand wedding,” dubbing it “Taylor’s extravagant Disney wedding.”
Kelly also criticized the artist, making a comparison to the Duchess of Sussex.
“She’s a bit like Meghan Markle, always reminding us of her relevance despite us already knowing who she is. She’s omnipresent, demanding admiration,” Kelly commented. “So, yes, it does seem to fit.”
Callahan humorously suggested that Swift’s wedding could become “a Netflix special.”
