Michelle Obama Sparks Controversy Over Hair Comments

Former First Lady Michelle Obama recently opened up about the challenges she faced with her hair while living in the White House, sparking controversy and drawing criticism from some quarters.

In an interview with People magazine while promoting her new style book The Look, Obama discussed the pressure women of color face to conform to certain beauty standards.

“The way our hair naturally grows out of our head is beautiful,” she said. “But if we struggle to make it look like the standard, that means we are spending thousands of hours and lots of money straightening out what is naturally curly hair, right?”

This statement drew a strong reaction from former news anchor Megyn Kelly, who criticized Obama on her podcast for what she perceived as playing the “race card.”

“Who is she kidding?” Kelly exclaimed. “Everything is about poor Michelle Obama. And especially when you get around the topic of race, it’s nonstop.”

Kelly went on to dispute Obama’s assertion that societal standards dictate how black women should wear their hair.

“What she’s saying is she’s bitter because society’s standards, in her view, don’t allow black women to just walk around with their natural hair,” Kelly argued. “Black women can walk around with whatever hair they want. Only in Michelle Obama’s warped mind do white people not like them unless their hair looks like white hair.”

The comments made by both Michelle Obama and Megyn Kelly have sparked a debate about beauty standards, race, and identity in America.
