Two Men Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison for Armed Robbery in River North

Marques Williams and Terrion Jackson, both 20 years old, have been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to armed robbery in River North. The sentencing took place before Judge John Lyke on Wednesday. The two men, along with two 17-year-old accomplices who remain unidentified, were accused of robbing four people at gunpoint on March 19, 2023.

The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. that night when Chicago police and other law enforcement agencies were tracking a stolen Jeep Compass believed to have been used in a robbery outside a Mariano’s grocery store in Park Ridge earlier that evening. Despite being under surveillance, the group managed to carry out another robbery in River North.

Upon reaching the 500 block of West Chicago Avenue, the driver of the stolen Jeep made a wide turn and stopped near four men who were preparing to enter a parked car. Four individuals emerged from the SUV, brandishing guns at each victim, and proceeded to steal their valuables before making their escape.

Police quickly located the Jeep in the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. All four individuals inside the vehicle attempted to flee but were apprehended nearby. Williams discarded a gun before being taken into custody, while Jackson disposed of several cellphones. Additionally, a second firearm was found inside the stolen Jeep, which had been reported missing earlier in the day from the 400 block of North State Street.

The victims of the robbery flagged down a Chicago police officer to report the incident and provided the license plate number of the getaway vehicle used by the perpetrators. The plate matched the one on the stolen Jeep, confirming their involvement in the crime.

While neither Jackson nor Williams had prior adult criminal convictions, prosecutors noted that both had extensive juvenile records. Jackson was facing three pending juvenile cases for carjacking and illegal possession of a firearm, while Williams had an outstanding juvenile warrant from McHenry County and a pending carjacking case in Chicago. Williams had previously been adjudicated delinquent for gun possession in 2019 and 2020, as well as for criminal trespass to a vehicle in 2019.

Williams was credited with 1,571 days earned while in custody, indicating that he may not serve additional time in prison due to the state’s policy of reducing sentences by 50 percent for good behavior. Jackson, on the other hand, received 1,062 days of credit, leaving him with approximately one year left to serve before becoming eligible for release.

Both men are set to appear in court next week to face robbery charges related to the Park Ridge incident.
