Meta Addresses Error Causing Graphic and Violent Content on Instagram Reels

Meta has recently rectified a significant error that led to some users encountering a deluge of graphic and violent videos within their Instagram Reels feed. This issue persisted despite users having the “Sensitive Content Control” feature enabled on their accounts.

The company swiftly took action to resolve the issue, issuing an apology for the oversight. A Meta spokesperson stated to CNBC, “We have fixed an error that caused some users to see content in their Instagram Reels feed that should not have been recommended. We apologize for the mistake.”

Despite Meta’s policy explicitly prohibiting content depicting dismemberment, visible innards, charred bodies, and sadistic remarks towards the suffering of humans and animals, users were unfortunately exposed to videos showcasing such disturbing imagery.

This incident follows Meta’s recent announcement of intentions to relax its content moderation policies in a bid to uphold free speech. This strategic shift has been perceived as a response to the changing political landscape, particularly in light of the upcoming Trump presidency.
