Meta Develops New AI Models Under Superintelligence Lab
Meta is currently focusing all its efforts on developing new AI models under its superintelligence lab led by Scale AI co-founder, Alexandr Wang. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the company is working on an image and video model called “Mango” and a text-based model internally referred to as “Avocado.”
The tech giant is aiming to release these new models in the first half of 2026, as revealed in an internal Q&A session at Meta where Wang and chief product officer Chris Cox unveiled the new roadmap.
Wang emphasized Meta’s goal to enhance the text-based model’s coding capabilities and explore new world models that can understand visual information, reason, plan, and act without requiring training on every possible scenario.
Despite recent setbacks, including leadership changes and the departure of key researchers, Meta is determined to catch up with competitors like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google in the AI race. The company’s AI division has undergone significant restructuring this year, but Meta SuperIntelligence Labs (MSL) continues to drive innovation in the field.
While Meta’s chief AI scientist, Yann Lecun, recently announced his departure to start his own venture, the company remains focused on developing a winning AI product. The success of MSL’s upcoming projects and models will be crucial for Meta’s AI ambitions, especially considering the company’s reliance on its vast social networks to bolster its AI assistant’s user base.
With all eyes on Meta’s advancements in AI technology, the pressure is on for MSL to deliver groundbreaking solutions that can propel the company to the forefront of the industry.
