A Detroit Father Accused of Using His Daughter in a Home Invasion
Recently, a disturbing incident unfolded in a quiet Detroit neighborhood when a 29-year-old man, Andre Stephon-Curtis Broadenax, allegedly coerced his 11-year-old daughter into participating in a home invasion. The shocking turn of events left the young girl abandoned by her father, who fled the scene when they were caught in the act.
According to prosecutors, Broadenax stole a car in Dearborn, Michigan, on April 29 and drove to a house under renovation in a nearby residential area. Once inside, he forced his daughter to accompany him as they attempted to burglarize the property.
However, their plans were foiled when the homeowner’s son unexpectedly walked in on them during the break-in. In a callous move, Broadenax immediately fled, leaving behind the stolen car and his daughter at the scene.
Law enforcement officers from the Detroit Police Department apprehended Broadenax on foot shortly after his escape attempt. The neighborhood residents, shocked by the father’s actions, expressed disbelief at his behavior.
David Bridges, a long-time resident, condemned Broadenax’s actions, stating that as a father of eight children himself, he couldn’t fathom using his own kids to commit crimes. He emphasized the danger faced by the young girl in being involved in such a risky situation.
Prosecutors have charged Broadenax with several offenses, including first-degree home invasion, second-degree home invasion, larceny in a building, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, inducing a minor to commit a felony, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 14.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern among residents, highlighting the importance of parental responsibility and the protection of children from being exploited in criminal activities.
