Mike Flanagan Adapts Stephen King’s Classic

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled a teaser trailer for “Carrie,” a TV series adaptation of Stephen King’s renowned horror novel. The complete series, comprising eight episodes, is set for release on Oct. 7.

Described as a “bold and timely reimagining,” the series follows Carrie White, a high school misfit who has lived her life in isolation under the control of her domineering mother. The storyline unfolds after Carrie’s father’s unexpected death, as she navigates the unfamiliar terrain of public high school, deals with a bullying scandal that shakes her community, and discovers her mysterious telekinetic abilities.

Summer H. Howell takes on the role of Carrie White, with Siena Agudong portraying Sue Snell and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. The cast also includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, and Joel Oulette as Tommy.

Mike Flanagan is the writer, executive producer, showrunner, and director, while Trevor Macy serves as executive producer. The production is handled by Amazon MGM Studios.

Summer H. Howell is no stranger to the horror genre, having appeared in projects like “Curse of Chucky,” “Cult of Chucky,” “Hunter Hunter,” “Spirit in the Blood,” “Time Cut,” “Harland Manor,” and “Channel Zero.” Samantha Sloyan and Mike Flanagan have a history of collaboration, with Sloyan featuring in Flanagan’s works such as “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Midnight Club,” “Midnight Mass,” and “Hush.”

“Carrie” comprises eight episodes and was initially reported to be in development in October 2024, officially receiving the green light from Amazon in April 2025. Stephen King’s novel was first adapted into an Oscar-nominated film in 1976, followed by a less successful sequel in 1999, a television film in 2002, and a remake in 2013.
