A recent incident at a Minnesota pizzeria has sparked controversy after a group of Republicans and Trump supporters were asked to leave the establishment over the weekend. The group, consisting of Republican staffers and activists, was reportedly expelled from the facility under the premise that political events were not allowed on the premises.

The incident gained attention on social media, with reports circulating about the group being asked to leave by the manager, Catherine/Katherine, at the Edina MN location of Davanni’s Pizza. The group, identified as SD50MNGOP, was allegedly told, “we don’t allow political events in our party room,” prompting outrage and calls for a boycott of the establishment.

Dalia al-Aqidi, a Republican Congressional candidate in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, spoke to about the incident, emphasizing that their expulsion was not a misunderstanding. She recounted how the manager insisted that they leave despite clarifying that it was not a political event but simply a gathering over dinner. Al-Aqidi expressed disappointment at the level of disrespect shown and highlighted the importance of mutual respect despite political differences.

In response to the backlash, Davanni’s released a statement reassuring customers that they welcome everyone, regardless of their political opinions. The statement acknowledged a misunderstanding around fundraising efforts in their party rooms and apologized for the impact on valued guests. The establishment emphasized their commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all guests and pledged to enhance training for their team members.

Davanni’s, a family-owned restaurant with a tradition in the Twin Cities since 1975, operates 19 locations and employs over 900 people. The incident at their Edina MN location is just one example of similar occurrences in restaurants and establishments across the country, where leftist employees and business owners have clashed with conservative patrons. Apologies and claims of misunderstandings often follow such incidents once they are exposed to the public eye.

As this incident unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of respectful coexistence and the need to uphold values of inclusivity and diversity in all community spaces. It is a call to action for businesses to ensure that all individuals feel welcome and valued, regardless of their political affiliations.
