A tragic incident unfolded early Saturday near Minneapolis as a Minnesota state representative and her spouse were fatally shot, while a state senator and his wife sustained injuries in separate, targeted shootings.
Authorities are on the lookout for a suspect who impersonated a police officer during the attacks.
Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were victims of what Governor Tim Walz described as a politically motivated assassination at their Brooklyn Park residence. The Governor termed it as an “unspeakable tragedy.”
In a separate incident in Champlin, Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded at their home, just miles away from the first shooting.
The City of Brooklyn Park issued a shelter-in-place order within a 3-mile radius of Edinburgh Golf Course due to the emergency event unfolding.
