A German backpacker named Carolina Wilga has gone missing while traveling solo in the Australian outback. Her abandoned van was discovered after she was last seen at a general store in Beacon, a town in the West Australia wheatbelt region, on June 29. Carolina, 26, had been in Australia for about two years, working and exploring the country.
Authorities found her Mitsubishi van abandoned about 150km from Beacon, with suspicions of mechanical issues causing the vehicle to stop. Despite the van being located, Carolina remains missing, prompting a nationwide search for her.
The search effort has been intensified in the remote Wheatbelt region, with concerns growing due to the harsh weather conditions in the area. While investigators do not believe foul play is involved, the circumstances surrounding Carolina’s disappearance are still unclear and being taken seriously.
Carolina’s family is deeply worried about her well-being, with her mother making a public plea for any information about her daughter’s whereabouts. Descriptions of Carolina’s appearance, including her tattoos and last known locations, have been shared in hopes of aiding the search.
As the search continues, a Facebook page called Help Find Carolina Wilga has been created to gather information and support for locating her. The region where she went missing, including the Karroun Hill Nature Reserve, is known for its vast and varied terrain, adding complexity to the search efforts.
