A tragic incident unfolded in Seattle recently when a 29-year-old mother was accused of beating her teenage son to death with an extension cord. The mother reportedly called 911 after her 14-year-old son became unresponsive while she was spanking him with the cord, claiming that she had gone too far in disciplining him for not completing his chores.
According to a police report, the mother admitted to shoving her son against a wall, causing him to hit his head and fall unconscious. She then continued to beat him for approximately an hour, even after he had fallen to the floor. The beating only stopped when the boy became unresponsive.
The mother, whose name has not been released, failed to appear in court for a bail hearing. Her public defender argued for her release, citing the trauma she was experiencing over the loss of her son. However, prosecutors requested a bail of $3 million, which was granted by the judge.
As of now, the woman has not been formally charged, and her son is only referred to as “J.R.” in the police report. Prosecutors anticipate that charges will be filed on Tuesday.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of violence within families. It is essential for communities to prioritize support systems and resources for parents and children to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
