The mother of the Brooklyn teen who was left paralyzed in a tragic shooting is holding onto hope that her son may regain his ability to walk. Nana Effah Donkor, a 16-year-old promising basketball player, was caught in the crossfire of a shooting that was intended for someone else, according to sources.

Donkor was with a friend at a Brooklyn bus stop after leaving a basketball tournament when a fellow church acquaintance greeted him. Shortly after, three teens approached and began firing shots. Donkor, realizing the danger, tried to run for cover but was struck by a bullet that left him paralyzed on Avenue J and East 16th Street in Midwood.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Donkor’s mother, Danielle Boakye, remains optimistic. After undergoing surgery, Donkor started feeling sensation in his feet, giving his family hope that he may one day walk again. Boakye described her son as a hardworking student who excels both on the basketball court and in his studies.

The intended target of the shooting, whom Donkor barely knew, is believed to be involved in gang activity. Donkor, who only knew him from church, was an innocent victim in the senseless act of violence that plagues the streets of New York City.

Boakye expressed her frustration with teen violence and called for an end to the accessibility of guns among young people. As of now, the suspects responsible for the shooting have not been apprehended, leaving the community on edge.

The road to recovery for Donkor will be long and challenging, but his family remains hopeful that he will overcome this tragic incident and one day regain his mobility. The support and prayers from the community are crucial as they navigate this difficult journey together.
