Sarasota, United States:

A powerful hurricane named Milton made a devastating landfall in Florida, bringing with it fierce winds, life-threatening rain, and storm surge. This Category 3 storm hit near Siesta Key on the state’s western coast, causing widespread fear and chaos as residents prepared for the worst.

The National Hurricane Center described Milton as “extremely dangerous,” with sustained winds of 120 miles per hour and the potential for up to 13 feet of storm surge. Governor Ron DeSantis urged everyone to hunker down and stay safe as the storm wreaked havoc across central Florida.

As Milton made its way through the region, cities like Sarasota experienced strong winds, torrential rain, and flash flooding. In anticipation of the storm, airports in Tampa and Sarasota were closed, and residents were advised to stay indoors and off the roads.

The arrival of Hurricane Milton came just two weeks after another major hurricane, Helene, struck Florida and other southeastern states, causing widespread devastation. The consecutive storms have left residents on edge, with many still recovering from the aftermath of Helene.

The impact of these storms has raised concerns about climate change and its role in intensifying weather events. Scientists warn that warmer ocean temperatures due to global warming can fuel more powerful storms, leading to increased risks for coastal communities.
