The most decorated cyclist in New Zealand’s Olympic history, Ellesse Andrews, has been awarded the Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the sport of cycling. At just 25 years old, Andrews has already secured four Olympic medals, including two golds, and continues to make her mark on the world stage.

Born into a family with a deep connection to cycling, Andrews credits her parents for introducing her to the sport. Her father, Jon Andrews, a Commonwealth Games medalist himself, recognized her potential early on and supported her journey to becoming an elite athlete. Her mother, Angela Mote-Andrews, also a former elite mountain biker, provided invaluable guidance and encouragement throughout her career.

Currently representing New Zealand in Japan, Andrews expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed upon her, acknowledging the unwavering support of her family, friends, and the cycling community. Raised in Luggate and educated in Wānaka and Cambridge, Andrews has consistently raised the bar in cycling, making history with her impressive performances at the Paris and Tokyo Olympics.

With multiple Olympic and Commonwealth Games medals to her name, Andrews has solidified her status as a trailblazer in New Zealand cycling. Despite her remarkable achievements, the MNZM came as a pleasant surprise to Andrews, underscoring the significance of this prestigious accolade.

As she continues to showcase her talent on the global stage, Andrews remains committed to representing her country with pride and excellence. Her dedication to her sport and her country has not gone unnoticed, and her latest honor is a testament to her hard work and determination.
