The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars Mayci Neeley and Mikayla Matthews have joined the conversation following the viral singing video of Demi Engemann and her husband Bret Engemann.
On Sunday, March 29, Mikayla, 26, responded to a viewer’s request for them to sing “True Colors” in an Instagram video. She commented on the video, noting it had “99 percent accuracy.”
As Mikayla sang “True Colors are beautiful,” Mayci, 31, chimed in with “Like a rainbow.” The clip concluded with Mayci laughing, and Mikayla humorously captioned it, “Sorry Mayci was a little breathy 👀😬.”
In the fourth season of Mormon Wives, Demi and Bret were captured heading to a studio to perform “True Colors.” This scene gained attention online, largely due to Demi’s critique of Bret’s singing. Despite this, their presence in season 4 of the Hulu series was limited.
In a TMZ interview published on March 13, Demi remarked, “I might come and go, but there are people that stay that want to go that don’t have the balls to go.” She emphasized her commitment to maintaining her peace and mental health, adding, “I will always be the girl that walks away for my peace [and] mental health. Like, it’s my opportunity too, so I can do what I want.”
She continued, “I don’t regret anything, and I’ll stand by my decision to come and go as I need to.”
A day before Demi’s comments, her former close friend Jessi Draper told E! News that her departure from the show wasn’t unexpected.
Jessi, 33, shared with the outlet on March 12, “Running off makes you look worse, in my opinion. I wasn’t surprised, because she does this a lot.”
Regarding Demi’s future involvement with Mormon Wives, she mentioned that her participation depends on her feelings “moment to moment.”
“[It will be] based on what feels right to me, and where my mental health’s at and what’s best for my family,” she told TMZ, hinting at “so many fun things coming” while remaining tight-lipped about specifics.
Shortly after her interview, reports emerged that production of season 5 of Mormon Wives was paused following an alleged domestic violence incident involving Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex Dakota Mortensen in Utah. A Draper City Police Department spokesperson confirmed an open “domestic assault investigation” involving both parties, with allegations from both sides.
In light of the investigation involving Taylor and Dakota, their Mormon Wives co-stars reportedly convened with Hulu and Disney executives to discuss a possible filming hiatus. NBC News cited a cast member during this meeting, saying, “It’s a dangerous situation, it’s a sad situation, and we don’t know how to navigate it because Taylor is our friend.”
Mikayla confirmed the decision to pause filming through her Instagram Story, stating, “It was a decision that all of us girls came up with and agreed on. We didn’t feel comfortable filming with everything that was happening.”
