The netball world is where you’ll always find Jo Morrison, the high-performance coach who has recently taken on the role of head coach for the New Zealand secondary schools team. With a background as the Southern Steel’s assistant coach and a player for the Otago Rebels, Morrison brings a wealth of experience to her new position. She is passionate about developing young talent and providing pathways for them to succeed in the sport.
Morrison is grateful for the support she has received throughout her career, from her playing days to her coaching roles. As a trained teacher, coaching comes naturally to her, and she is dedicated to giving back to the next generation of players. Her involvement in the high-performance side of the game has not changed her love for netball, which she describes as the ultimate team sport.
In addition to her coaching roles, Morrison has been part of High Performance Sport New Zealand’s Te Hapaitanga programme, which has been a transformative experience for her. She values the connections she has made with coaches from different codes and the opportunity to learn and grow as a coach.
Despite her busy schedule, Morrison always puts her family first, with her husband and four children being her top priority. As she continues to juggle coaching, teaching, and parenting, Morrison remains focused on developing both herself and the players she works with.
