An ongoing snowstorm in April has led to the closure of a section of Interstate 70 between Golden and the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel, as reported by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
By 7:30 a.m., the westbound lanes of I-70 were shut down between Golden and the tunnel. While the eastbound side from the tunnel to Silverthorne was also closed earlier in the morning, it reopened just before 7:20 a.m.
Plow trucks are actively working in the area and throughout the state to combat the storm that is expected to bring up to a foot of snow to the mountains by Saturday morning.
As of 7:30 a.m., all major highways in Denver remained open, according to CDOT.
Winter Weather Advisories are in place for much of the western half of the state, with the National Weather Service cautioning that travel in the mountains may be “hazardous” in certain areas and “very difficult to impossible” in others.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
