Ethan Devine, a close friend and former teammate of the late Michael Newberry, shares fond memories of their friendship. Devine recalls how they would talk every day without fail, and how Michael played a crucial role in his life. Michael, who grew up near St James’ Park, Newcastle United’s home ground, was a talented footballer who joined Newcastle’s academy at a young age.

Despite not making a first-team appearance for Newcastle due to injuries, Michael went on to have a successful career in Iceland and Northern Ireland. He won a league title with Linfield in 2022, where he played alongside Devine. Devine credits Michael for helping him mature as a man and keeping him on the right path.

Tragically, Michael passed away suddenly, leaving his friends, family, and teammates in shock. Cliftonville, Michael’s former club, played against Linfield in a highly emotional match following his death. Devine, along with others, struggled to come to terms with the loss of their dear friend.

Adrian Salem, Michael’s brother, reminisces about their childhood and the bond they shared over football. Michael’s journey in football began at Red House Farm, where he was a popular and talented young player. Despite not making it to Newcastle’s first team, Michael’s dedication and humility left a lasting impact on his teammates and coaches.

After leaving Newcastle, Michael played in Iceland before joining Linfield in Northern Ireland. He was highly respected by his teammates for his work ethic and positive attitude. His move to Cliftonville marked a new chapter in his career, where he continued to impress both on and off the field.

The sudden loss of Michael left a void in the football community, with his friends and teammates struggling to cope with the grief. Devine, Palmer, and others remember Michael for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering support. As they try to come to terms with his passing, they cherish the memories they shared with him.

Adrian Salem, deeply affected by his brother’s death, reflects on the importance of expressing love and appreciation to those close to us. He plans to attend the match between Linfield and Cliftonville in honor of Michael, a fitting tribute to his brother’s legacy. The impact of Michael’s life and untimely death serves as a reminder to cherish the moments we have with loved ones.
