MS-13 Gang Members Attack Correctional Officers in Virginia Prison
A group of MS-13 gang members, who are in the country illegally, allegedly stabbed three correctional officers in a Friday morning attack inside a Virginia prison, according to authorities.
Six inmates at Wallens Ridge State Prison in Big Stone Gap carried out the attack around 9:45 a.m., as reported by the Virginia Department of Corrections.
Two of the correctional officers were hospitalized in stable condition, while three others sought treatment at nearby hospitals.
Five out of the six inmates involved in the attack are affiliated with the notorious El Salvadoran gang and have been convicted of violent crimes such as murder and rape, officials revealed.
The remaining prisoner, serving a sentence for second-degree murder, is an American citizen associated with the Sureno 13 gang, according to officials.
āFive of the individuals responsible for this senseless attack should never have been in the country in the first place,ā stated VADOC Director Chad Dotson.
āOur officers put their lives on the line every day to ensure public safety for over 8.8 million people in the Commonwealth. This attack highlights the risks they face when they report to work each day. Our officers are heroes, and I commend the Wallens Ridge team for their prompt response.ā
The investigation into the attack is currently ongoing.
