The Hulu limited series revolving around the infamous Murdaugh family has recently announced a new addition to its cast. Tyner Rushing will be joining the ensemble in a recurring guest star role, as reported exclusively by Variety.
Rushing joins a star-studded cast that already includes Jason Clarke, Patricia Arquette, J. Smith-Cameron, Johnny Berchtold, Will Harrison, Brittany Snow, Noah Emmerich, Kathleen Wilhoite, and Tommy Dewey. The series is based on the real-life story of Maggie and Alex Murdaugh, as well as the investigative reporting of Mandy Matney, journalist and creator of the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast. Clarke will portray Alex Murdaugh, while Arquette will take on the role of Maggie. Snow is set to star as Matney in the series.
The Murdaugh family has long been a prominent presence in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina, wielding significant legal and political influence. However, over the years, they have faced allegations of various crimes, including fraud and even murder. Their story has been the focus of numerous docuseries, news specials, and podcasts, including Matney’s acclaimed work.
In the upcoming series, Rushing will play the character of Det. Laura Rutland, a key investigator assigned to the Murdaugh murder case. Rushing’s previous credits include appearances in popular shows like “For All Mankind” on Apple TV+, as well as “The Last Thing He Told Me,” “Under the Banner of Heaven,” “Stranger Things,” and “Lovecraft Country.” She is also slated to appear in the upcoming Max series “It: Welcome to Derry,” scheduled for release later this year.
Represented by 42 and Alexander White, Rushing is poised to bring her talent and expertise to the compelling narrative of the Murdaugh series. The show’s co-creators and executive producers, Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr, along with showrunner Fuller, are leading the charge in bringing this riveting story to life. Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund will also serve as executive producers under their banner Eat the Cat, with Matney joining the team as an executive producer. The series is produced by UCP, with Antosca and Eat the Cat currently under an overall deal at the studio.
