A Proclamation

In a nation renowned for its spirit of giving, organ donations stand out as a beacon of humanity. Over 170 million Americans have pledged to become donors, a commitment that deserves our heartfelt appreciation. As we observe National Donate Life Month, we take a moment to honor these altruistic individuals whose remarkable acts of kindness transform lives.

Last year, the collective efforts of Americans resulted in nearly 50,000 lives saved or extended through organ donations and transplants. Each life is invaluable, and a single donor can potentially provide new beginnings for up to 8 individuals while improving the quality of life for 75 others grappling with chronic illnesses, vision loss, severe burns, or traumatic injuries.

Currently, over 103,000 men, women, and children are on the national transplant waiting list, each one holding onto hope for a miracle. Alarmingly, a new name is added to this list every eight minutes, with 17 people tragically passing away each day while waiting. This sobering reality underscores the critical need for more individuals to step forward as registered donors.

Eligibility to become an organ donor is broad, encompassing individuals of all ages and medical histories. Signing up is a straightforward process—simply visit your State registry, stop by the Department of Motor Vehicles, or go to www.organdonor.gov. The act of registering can be as easy as checking a box or filling out a form online.

This month, we pay tribute to the selfless donors who choose to give life to others, as well as to the grateful recipients who receive the gift of health and renewed hope. The First Lady and I hold in our hearts all those waiting for a transplant, sharing in their anticipation and hope for a brighter future.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim April 2025 as National Donate Life Month. I encourage all Americans to reflect on the possibility of becoming a donor and to discuss this important decision with their families and loved ones.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this third day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.

                              DONALD J. TRUMP
