BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
In recognition of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, we honor the strength, discipline, and competitive spirit that define the American people. We acknowledge the values and lessons instilled by sports and fitness, and we renew our dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles, broadening access to sports opportunities, and ensuring every American can compete and thrive.
Sports and fitness are integral to American identity, with our nation’s greatness forged through hard work, determination, and a relentless pursuit of success. Physical dedication not only sharpens the mind and strengthens the will but also builds character that permeates every facet of American life. Those who uphold this standard of excellence are equipped to face any challenge in today’s world.
My Administration is devoted to empowering the next generation of Americans by promoting sports participation. I proudly signed an Executive Order to revitalize the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition and to reintroduce the Presidential Fitness Test. Celebrating the Council’s 70th anniversary, we are prioritizing fitness and nutrition nationwide. Collaborating with top-tier professional athletes, major sports organizations, teams, schools, and communities, we usher in a new era of physical fitness. We are enhancing access to wellness for all Americans, highlighting the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition, supporting youth sports, and fostering a culture of strength, vitality, and excellence.
We are also committed to restoring integrity and fairness in sports. In my initial days back in office, I issued an Executive Order to maintain the separation of men’s and women’s athletics, safeguarding the equal opportunity for women and girls to compete and excel. Additionally, I took action to ensure colleges maintain and potentially expand scholarship and roster opportunities for student athletes across all sports. We strive to enforce clear, fair rules regarding eligibility, transfers, and compensation, preserving college athletics as a uniquely American tradition.
In the upcoming three years, the United States will host the Presidents Cup, the FIFA World Cup, and the Olympic Games, showcasing the world’s premier sporting events. These occasions will inspire fitness aspirations for all generations and highlight the unifying power of sports. To commemorate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s independence, my Administration will host the Patriot Games this fall, featuring one young man and one young woman from each state and territory. This unique event will spotlight the brightest emerging talents, demonstrating to the world that the American competitive spirit remains vibrant and robust.
This month serves as a reminder that a nation’s strength lies in its citizens. I urge all Americans to pursue healthy, fulfilling lives through regular exercise and the joys of sports, thereby enhancing the vigor, vitality, and success of our nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 2026 as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. I call upon public officials, sports educators, athletes, and all Americans to engage in sports and physical activities, particularly our nation’s youth.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fifth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
DONALD J. TRUMP
