Early Sunday morning in southern Wyoming, a natural gas pipeline ruptured and burst into flames, causing a freight train to catch fire and illuminating the night sky with a glow visible over 60 miles away in Colorado, according to officials.

Emergency crews were quick to respond after reports of explosions along Interstate 80 west of Cheyenne came in around 1 a.m., as stated by Laramie County Fire District #10.

The fire district reported that the flames engulfed freight cars on a Union Pacific Railroad train. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities, and no significant hazardous material releases threatening the public.

By 9 a.m., firefighters had the situation under control, although the extent of the damage to the rail cars was not immediately known. Union Pacific was contacted for further information.

Media reports indicated that the glow from the fire could be seen as far as Loveland, Colorado.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced that their investigators would be arriving at the scene on Monday morning.
