Indie streamer Nebula is set to premiere director Patrick Willems’ short film “The Dinner Plan” next month, featuring a story that may not sit well with those suffering from emetophobia. The film follows a man, portrayed by Griffin Newman, who is desperately trying to avoid vomiting at his boss’ dinner party.
The star-studded cast includes John Hodgman, Miriam Shor, Zach Cherry, Eudora Peterson, Geoffrey Cantor, and Cindy Cheung. Clocking in at 33 minutes, this comedy-thriller is scheduled to debut on Nebula on November 26, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Described as a film directed by Willems and written by Michael Curran and Jacob Torpey, based on a story by Willems, “The Dinner Plan” revolves around a man with a rare food allergy who must navigate a high-stress evening with one simple goal: avoid throwing up in front of everyone.
In the exclusive trailer released by Variety, it becomes evident that the protagonist should steer clear of tomatoes, a food item that seems to be at the forefront of the host’s menu throughout the night.
Produced by Nebula’s Dave Wiskus and Trenton Waterson, with Zara Glaze as associate producer, “The Dinner Plan” marks a significant milestone for the indie streaming platform. Nebula, known for its creator-owned subscription streaming service focused on “edutainment” programming, is branching out into scripted content with this latest offering.
Director Patrick Willems, a prominent figure on YouTube and Nebula, is recognized for his unique blend of film criticism and narrative storytelling. His previous work includes the debut feature film “Night of the Coconut,” released on Nebula in 2022.
As Nebula continues to expand its repertoire, “The Dinner Plan” promises to deliver a captivating and entertaining viewing experience for audiences. Stay tuned for this exciting new release coming soon to the streaming platform.
