Technical Issues Plague Netflix Streaming of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Fight
As fans eagerly tuned in to watch the highly anticipated Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight on Netflix, many were left disappointed due to buffering and image quality issues that plagued the earlier fights. This led to frustration and an inability to fully enjoy the action.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy took to social media multiple times during the event to express his frustration with the streaming service. He tweeted, âSo the reports are in. #netflix wasn’t ready for this. This is unwatchable,â and also mentioned, âIâm in the classic torture chamber where I can’t tell if my internet keeps going out or whether #netflix is just constantly buffering and unwatchable for everybody.â
Sports commentator Skip Bayless also chimed in, mentioning his own streaming issues and expressing concern about potential disruptions during the Paul-Tyson fight.
Despite the complaints, the fight continued for all eight rounds, with Paul ultimately being declared the winner. However, phrases such as âUnwatchableâ and â#NetflixCrashâ were trending on social media throughout the evening.
When reached out for comment, a spokesperson for Netflix declined to address the criticisms at that time.
Although this fight marked Netflixâs first foray into live sports broadcasting, more events are on the horizon. The NFL and WWE are set to debut on the streaming platform, with the NFL scheduling two games on Christmas Day and the WWE bringing âRawâ to Netflix on January 6.
In a previous live event hosted by Netflix in April 2023, a âLove Is Blindâ reunion faced similar technical challenges. Despite a 90-minute delay, the reunion was eventually taped and made available on the streaming service the following day.
