Netflix Introduces Live Voting Feature for Interactive Viewing Experience

Netflix is set to revolutionize the way viewers engage with live content with the launch of a new feature that allows users to participate in real-time voting. The streaming giant announced that this interactive option will debut alongside the premiere of its live-streamed talent show, “Star Search,” on January 20.

Subscribers will have the opportunity to engage with the show by either selecting options from a multiple-choice menu or rating performances on a five-star scale. This can be done conveniently using either a TV remote or the Netflix app.

The voting feature will be accessible globally, with Netflix tallying votes in real-time on the backend. Viewers will have a limited window to cast their votes, and any additional votes submitted after the deadline will not be counted. This ensures that the voting process remains fair and timely for all participants.

Netflix initially tested live voting back in August 2025 with “Dinner Time Live with David Chang.” Following a successful trial period, the company’s Chief Technology Officer, Elizabeth Stone, confirmed that the feature would be rolled out on a larger scale.

Stone explained, “Viewers watching ‘Star Search’ can actively participate by voting for contestants using their TV or mobile devices. This marks the beginning of a more interactive viewing experience where subscribers can influence the content they watch and feel fully immersed in the storyline.”

With a strong focus on live programming, Netflix has previously introduced shows like “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney” and “Dinner Time Live with David Chang,” in addition to broadcasting sports events such as the NFL Christmas special and WWE shows. The platform also launched interactive games for smart TVs in October, combining entertainment and engagement seamlessly.
