Netflix has commissioned a limited series titled “The Corrections,” featuring Meryl Streep, as confirmed by Variety.
The series is an adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s novel with the same name and is expected to debut in late 2024. Franzen will adapt his own novel for television and serve as an executive producer. Meryl Streep will also take on an executive producer role in addition to her acting duties. The production team includes Mark Roybal and Paul Lee from wiip, as well as Nicole Clemens. Cord Jefferson, known for works like “American Fiction” and “Watchmen,” will executive produce and direct all episodes. The production will be handled by Paramount Television Studios.
The series is described as “a sharply comic portrait of a Midwestern family whose three unmoored adult siblings desperately resist their mother’s wish for one last Christmas together – each undone by the delusional ambitions that were supposed to save them from becoming their parents.”
Originally published in 2001, “The Corrections” has previously faced challenges in being adapted for the screen. A film version was once planned but never came to fruition. In 2011, HBO developed a pilot based on the book with Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, and Ewan McGregor set to star. However, in 2012, it was reported that the pilot would not proceed to series.
In recent years, this marks another television role for Streep. She appeared in the third and fourth seasons of the popular Hulu comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” earning both a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for her performance. She also starred in HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” which garnered her additional Globe and Emmy nods. Streep, widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses of all time, has received 21 Academy Award nominations, making her the most-nominated actor in history. She won Oscars for “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “Sophie’s Choice,” and “The Iron Lady.”
