Former New York Times Writer Bari Weiss Shakes Up CBS News Division

Renowned former opinion writer for the New York Times, Bari Weiss, has been brought on board by David Ellison, a supporter of Donald Trump and the new Chairman and CEO of Paramount, to bring a fresh perspective to the network news division. The goal is to move away from left-leaning and woke reporting and provide a more balanced and fact-based approach to news.
Ellison expressed his vision for CBS as the home for news that caters to the majority of the country who seek unbiased and principled journalism. He praised Weiss as a “proven champion of independent, principled journalism” in his announcement of her hiring on October 6.
Shortly after joining CBS, Weiss held a meeting with the 60 Minutes staff where she posed a direct question, “Why does the country think you’re biased?” Her straightforward approach left the room in stunned silence, highlighting the need for introspection and potential changes in the network’s reporting style.
As part of a recent development, CBS and Paramount reached a settlement with former President Donald Trump, agreeing to pay him $16 million to resolve a lawsuit. Trump had accused the news magazine of deceptive conduct, alleging that an interview with his 2024 campaign opponent, Kamala Harris, was edited in a misleading manner to alter her responses.
