A prominent figure in wrestling has transitioned to free agency after requesting a release from his current organization. Fans speculate that he might join AEW.
Earlier today, it was announced that Steve Maclin’s request for release from TNA was approved. During his 5-year tenure with the Nashville-based company, he even held their world champion title. Prior to this, he was affiliated with WWE under the name Steve Cutler, spending most of his time on NXT before briefly appearing on the main roster.
According to Fightful Select, multiple companies are likely to pursue Maclin now that he is available. However, no specific frontrunners have been identified.
Fans are speculating that Maclin is likely to move to AEW, especially since his wife, Deonna Purrazzo, is already signed with the company. They have been engaging in fantasy booking, suggesting he could integrate well into factions like The Dogs and the Don Callis Family. Reuniting with former TNA rival Josh Alexander, this time as an ally, was also proposed.
Another fan suggested Maclin would excel in ROH, potentially becoming a key player in their mid-card, aligning well with his wife’s more active role there as the current Women’s Pure Champion.
AEW star Deonna Purrazzo sends heartfelt message to her husband after his TNA departure
After Steve Maclin announced his departure from TNA on social media, reflecting on his time and future, his wife responded with a supportive message celebrating this new chapter.
“You are the epitome of a professional. You gave more blood than anyone I’ve ever seen. You have more heart than anyone I know. And you made the most of every minute you were given. This kind of feels like the end of an era… but I know it’s the start of something even more magical. I love you,” she wrote.
It remains to be seen if the couple will both be part of AEW. Maclin’s existing relationships with several talents on the roster could make him a valuable acquisition for AEW.
