A recent Sun Country Airlines flight en route to Newark, New Jersey, took an unexpected detour, making an emergency landing in Chicago after a passenger, adorned with at least a dozen face masks, sparked chaos with a bizarre monologue, claiming that “gay people are giving me cancer” and enthusiastically declaring, “Trump is here!”
The flight, which took off from Minneapolis Friday morning, had passengers on edge from the outset, reporting that the unusual antics began almost immediately after takeoff.
One witness, Seth Evans, who found himself across the aisle from the erratic individual, recounted to the Minnesota Star Tribune that the wild outbursts commenced even before the aircraft reached cruising altitude.

Evans, a Minnesota native heading back to New York City, detailed in a series of text messages that the man’s erratic behavior persisted throughout the flight. The individual was seen alternating between screaming and playing games of Candy Crush. The situation escalated when the man proclaimed something akin to, “the plane is going down,” resulting in an immediate diversion. He reportedly shouted about being “gang chased,” “cooked,” and “radiated” by the LGBTQ community, ultimately blaming them for his perceived health crisis. Notably, Evans observed that the man was wearing “no less than 15 masks” stacked upon each other. At least once, he recalled the claimant shouting, “Trump is here.”
The Chicago police responded promptly, handcuffing the agitated passenger and removing him from the aircraft without any incidents. The flight remained stationary as U.S. Marshals and law enforcement conducted interviews with those onboard regarding the occurrence.
In a statement, Sun Country Airlines confirmed the diversion, stating:
“The flight landed without incident, and the passenger in question was turned over to law enforcement and removed from the aircraft. We appreciate our passengers’ patience during this unexpected interruption, and the flight continued on to Newark afterward.”
