Newly disclosed court documents indicate that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a deported Salvadoran gang member, faced a domestic violence protective order filed by his wife, Jennifer Vasquez, in 2021.
Democratic lawmakers contend that Garcia’s deportation under the Alien Enemies Act was unjust, citing a previous protective status that acknowledged his fears of violence if returned to El Salvador. However, the Trump Administration references two court decisions confirming that Garcia is an MS-13 gang memberâclassifying him as a foreign terroristâand an undocumented immigrant. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller states, âUnder our law, heâs not even allowed to be in the United States and had to be returned because of the foreign terrorist designation.â
With a court hearing for her husband approaching, Jennifer Vasquez implored the American public for her husband’s return to the U.S., despite previously accusing him of domestic violence.

Vasquez: “Today marks 34 days since his disappearance, and I stand before you with an unwavering spirit. I will not cease my fight until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasnât forgotten about you. Our children are asking when you will come home, and I pray for the day I can tell them the time and date of your return.”
As reported by , some Democratic lawmakers are traveling to El Salvador to advocate for the release of Garcia, whom they describe as a âMaryland dadâ and claim is âinnocent,â conveniently overlooking his affiliations with the MS-13 gang and his illegal status in the U.S.

However, the protective order filed by Vasquez against Abrego Garcia in May 2021 raises questions about the narrative being constructed. The court ruled in favor of the protective order on June 17, 2021, highlighting that Garcia is not the idyllic father figure Democrats portray him to be.
According to The Chesapeake Today, “Jennifer Vasquez sought an order of protection due to domestic violence from her husband on May 13, 2021, with the final order being issued by Prince Georgeâs County District Court Judge LaKeecia Allen.” Judge Allen has since been promoted to the Circuit Court by Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
Despite the troubling details, a GoFundMe campaign for Garcia’s family has amassed over $170,000, with Vasquez describing him as âan excellent fatherâ who has always been present for their three children, two of whom are on the autism spectrum, and one who suffers from epilepsy. âSince our family has been separated, I have been devastated and confused. I lost my life partner, my children lost their father, and all of our family, neighbors, co-workers, and friends have been devastated due to this unjust family separation,â she lamented.
An X user pointed out the irony of Vasquezâs situation, noting that her protective order against Garcia would have disqualified him from obtaining citizenship.
Why do you think she couldnât apply for his citizenship status? Because she had filed for a protective order against him and that automatically disqualified him. pic.twitter.com/rjR9aPSap3

In a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned the actions of Democratic lawmakers as âatrocious,â suggesting that their popularity might improve if they prioritized American citizens over undocumented criminals. âDemocrats are flying to El Salvador right now to demand the return of this violent illegal alien MS-13 gang member back into the United States,â she remarked on X.
