The recent arrest of the mother and aunt of a 14-year-old boy charged with killing a Newark cop has shed light on a lucrative drug trade operated by the family. Rabiyah Sorey, the 43-year-old mother of the accused teen, was identified as the alleged ringleader of the Double ii gang, which is affiliated with the Bloods. Along with her twin sister, Hadiyah Sorey, and 24 other gang members or associates, Rabiyah was arrested on March 24 by state authorities.
The Double ii gang is said to have run an open-air drug market on the 200 block of North 9th Street, near Branch Brook Park in Newark. The gang members were involved in distributing heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl, with “creepers” serving as distributors and enforcers carrying out violent acts on behalf of Rabiyah Sorey. Investigators also linked Rabiyah to at least four shootings between April 2023 and December.
Days before their arrest, Hadiyah Sorey spoke to The Post about her nephew and the allegations against him. She boldly claimed to make $4,000 a day from selling drugs and boasted about her influence in Newark’s North Ward. The Sorey family’s drug operation was further exposed when police raided Rabiyah’s home in Elizabeth, where they found cash, drug paraphernalia, and evidence of drug production.
In a statement, New Jersey’s Attorney General Matthew Platkin emphasized the impact of illegal drug trafficking on communities and the need to dismantle criminal organizations like Double ii. He commended law enforcement efforts in arresting the 26 individuals involved in the gang and vowed to continue working to protect cities and towns from such criminal enterprises.
The Soreys have not responded to requests for comment on the charges against them. The case highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and gang violence in New Jersey, underscoring the importance of collaborative law enforcement efforts to ensure public safety.
