Jalen Hurts is under intense scrutiny after reports questioned his leadership and dedication. The controversy erupted following the Philadelphia Eagles’ disappointing 2025 season, culminating in a 23–19 Wild Card defeat to the San Francisco 49ers.
Even though Hurts led the Eagles to a Super Bowl LIX victory the previous year, the team’s offensive performance in 2025 was lackluster. Sources inside the locker room suggested that Hurts appeared disengaged and exhibited poor body language.

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman came to Hurts’ defense during his appearance on the “Get Up” show on Wednesday.

“I believe Jalen can do anything that he’s asked to do,” Aikman said. “What that proved to me is he’s a quarterback that puts in the time to do everything he can to be his best.”

“Whatever he’s been challenged with this offseason, I fully expect him to come out and play the kind of football that we’re accustomed to seeing him play.”
In the aftermath of the initial reports, the narrative shifted from performance issues to character flaws. There were doubts about whether Hurts had become an adversary within the team. Rumors suggested he was uncoachable under head coach Nick Sirianni.
This situation allegedly strained his relationship with star receiver A.J. Brown, possibly leading to trade considerations. The Eagles’ decision to draft South Dakota State quarterback Cole Payton in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL draft might indicate the team is preparing for a future without Hurts if the situation doesn’t improve.

Dan Graziano shares bold take on Jalen Hurts’ future in Philadelphia
Jalen Hurts is again under scrutiny regarding his future with the Philadelphia Eagles following an uneven 2025 offensive season.
During ESPN’s “Get Up” show earlier this week, NFL insider Dan Graziano highlighted Hurts’ contract structure as a factor the Eagles could consider when deciding on the quarterback’s future as early as next offseason.
Graziano noted that while Hurts secured a five-year, $255 million extension in 2023, a large portion of the guaranteed money expires before the later years of the contract. His 2027 salary reportedly includes only $22 million in guaranteed money.
The insider suggested that if the offense continues to struggle under new coordinator Sean Mannion, the Eagles might look for alternative options next year.
