Dallas Goedert, the veteran tight end who has spent eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring. As the offseason activities begin, there is uncertainty surrounding whether the Eagles will re-sign Goedert for another season, similar to what they did in 2025.
Recently, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo provided some insight on Goedert’s future with the Eagles on “The Anthony Gargano Show.” Garafolo mentioned that Goedert is open to returning to the team for the upcoming NFL season, indicating that his story with the franchise might not be over.
“I know Dallas would like to come back, all things equal,” Garafolo stated. “He took a pay cut last year to make it happen. But even then, you’ve got to have yourself multiple tight ends.”
Garafolo also expressed surprise at the Eagles’ lack of focus on the tight end position last year, considering Goedert’s potential departure after the 2026 season. He highlighted the importance of securing a successor at various positions, including tight end.
In 2025, Goedert signed a one-year deal worth $10 million and appeared in 10 games for the Eagles, tallying 42 receptions for 496 yards and two touchdowns. His return in 2026 could be crucial in grooming a younger player, potentially a rookie, for the role.
Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Goedert’s future, there are speculations about his potential replacement. CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin suggested that the Eagles could target David Njoku from the Cleveland Browns in free agency as a suitable replacement for Goedert.
“Whether they want to address the position in the draft or not, they could have a need here if Goedert decides to pursue opportunities elsewhere,” Dubin explained. “Eagles need to figure out a way to open up the middle of the field for their offense, and Njoku could help them do that.”
Njoku, who lost his starting role to Harold Fannin Jr. in 2025, announced on social media that he would not be returning to the Browns in 2026 and plans to test free agency. This development could pave the way for the Eagles to consider Njoku as a replacement for Goedert.
As the offseason progresses, the Eagles will need to make strategic decisions regarding their tight end position and potentially secure a suitable successor for Goedert. The upcoming NFL season promises to bring changes and opportunities for both the Eagles and Goedert as they navigate the uncertainties of free agency and player contracts.
The potential return of Goedert or the acquisition of Njoku could shape the Eagles’ offensive strategy for the upcoming season, adding depth and versatility to their roster. Fans will eagerly await further updates on Goedert’s contract negotiations and the Eagles’ plans for their tight end position.
