The Week 8 Power Rankings are out, and it’s time to dive deep into each team’s performance. Not all 5-2 teams are created equal, as evidenced by Washington and Buffalo. While a good record is important, the quality of wins matters too. Let’s take a closer look at the top teams and their resumes.
1. Detroit Lions (5-2)
The Lions have been on fire lately, averaging a league-best 40 points per game since Week 4. Jared Goff is leading the charge with seven touchdown passes and no interceptions in his last three games. Detroit’s win over the previously undefeated Rams solidified their spot at the top of the rankings.
2. Baltimore Ravens (6-1)
Despite defensive struggles, the Ravens’ offense led by Derrick Henry has been unstoppable. Baltimore is tied for the league lead in scoring and has won five straight games, with four of those wins coming against teams with winning records.
3. Minnesota Vikings (5-1)
The Vikings suffered their first loss of the season to the Lions, but they remain a strong contender. Their point differential and impressive wins over teams like the Packers and 49ers keep them in the top tier of the rankings.
4. Kansas City Chiefs (6-0)
The Chiefs may not have eye-popping stats, but they are undefeated for a reason. Patrick Mahomes is leading the team to victories, and half of their wins have come against winning teams. Despite some concerns, Kansas City is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.
5. Green Bay Packers (5-2)
The Packers secured a close win over the Texans, but they need to prove themselves against tougher competition. Their win over the Rams in Week 3 remains one of their strongest showings this season.
6. Houston Texans (5-2)
The Texans suffered a tough loss to the Packers, highlighting some weaknesses in their offense. C.J. Stroud’s struggles have been evident, but Joe Mixon’s performance against Green Bay was a bright spot for Houston.
7. Buffalo Bills (5-2)
Josh Allen continues to impress, leading the Bills to a dominant win over the Titans. However, Buffalo’s wins have come against teams with a combined 9-24 record, raising questions about the quality of their victories.
8. Washington Commanders (5-2)
Washington’s win over the Panthers showcased their potential, but they have yet to beat a team with a winning record this season. Marcus Mariota’s strong performance in relief of Jayden Daniels has given the Commanders a boost.
