ATLANTA — The Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris was in stable condition after being attended to for about 20 minutes and taken off the field in an ambulance on Friday night in Atlanta, resulting in the preseason game ending early.
“Morice Norris is in stable condition and has feeling and movement in all his extremities,” the Lions stated. “He will remain at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta overnight for observation. We would like to thank the Atlanta Falcons organization, the EMS team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and the doctors and staff at Grady for their support.”
Norris was injured with 14:50 remaining while trying to tackle running back Nathan Carter. The game was suspended with Detroit leading 17-10, and Lions coach Dan Campbell requested prayers for the 24-year-old Norris.

Allen said, “It’s just awful… You sign up for football and you understand the risk, you understand the injury risk. You never think something like that is going to happen.”
Campbell and Falcons coach Raheem Morris made the decision not to finish the game, with Morris stating it was “common courtesy” to call off the game given the circumstances.

Although the decision not to finish the game may have seemed dramatic, similar incidents occurred in preseason games in August 2023, highlighting the risks involved in football.
The two frightening injuries in the article serve as a reminder of the dangers associated with the sport, but also the resilience and recovery of the players involved.
