The Chicago Bears are facing concerns over Caleb Williams’ long-term viability as a franchise quarterback due to their midseason offensive regression. While it’s important to critique Williams’ recent flaws, it’s also crucial to acknowledge that the team’s struggles are not solely his fault. At just 22 years old with nine career starts, it’s premature to write off Williams completely.

Williams has been sacked a league-high 38 times, partially due to his tendency to hold onto the ball too long and struggle with his reads. However, issues with the offensive line, play designs, and play calls have also contributed to his challenges. Some executives have noted that Williams’ play style, which worked in college, is not as effective in the NFL, and improvements need to be made.

The Bears need to find ways to make Williams comfortable on the field to help him play without overthinking and stay on schedule. This process will require patience, repetition, and emphasis on building his confidence and timing. While Williams has shown flashes of brilliance reminiscent of Patrick Mahomes, he needs to strike a balance between improvisational playmaking and executing within the structure of the offense.

The team’s recent three-game losing streak has magnified Williams’ struggles, especially compared to the performances of rookie quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye. However, it’s essential for the organization to continue working with Williams and nurture his talent to fulfill his potential as a franchise quarterback.

In Jacksonville, the Jaguars are dealing with their own challenges, with Trevor Lawrence facing regression and the team struggling to support him effectively. If changes are made in the coaching staff after the season, Jacksonville could be an attractive destination for coaches looking to work with Lawrence and help him reach his full potential.

In the short term, Lawrence’s absence presents an opportunity for Mac Jones to prove himself as a potential starter. Jones will need to capitalize on the upcoming games against the Lions and Texans to showcase his abilities and potentially earn a starting role. If successful, Jones could revive his career and compete for a starting position next season.

Overall, both the Bears and Jaguars are navigating through pivotal moments in their quarterback situations, with the success of Williams and Lawrence crucial to their respective franchises’ futures. Patience, development, and strategic decision-making will be key in guiding these young quarterbacks towards success in the NFL.
