Former NFL player Taylor Lewan shared his thoughts on why he disagrees with Bad Bunny being chosen as the next halftime performer for the Super Bowl.
During a recent episode of his podcast, “Bussin’ With the Boys,” Lewan appeared on Up & Adams on Tuesday, September 30, where he expressed his viewpoint.
“In my opinion, the NFL might have erred in selecting Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl halftime show,” Lewan remarked to host Kay Adams.
While acknowledging Bad Bunny’s skills in music and acting, Lewan emphasized that the NFL missed a significant chance.
“It should have been Taylor Swift,” Lewan expressed. “She’s been actively engaging with the football community and bridging two very distinct cultures.”
Swift, 35, is currently in a relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Since their romance began in 2023, Lewan credited her with boosting the NFL’s popularity.
“If you look at the rising salary cap, it’s evident. You might think, ‘The ratings are fantastic, so our players must be exceptional.’ But really, it’s the Swiftie movement,” Lewan remarked.
He added that with Kelce nearing the end of his career, the opportunity for a powerful Swift halftime show may soon slip away.
“We need to wrap this up nicely,” he urged. “We don’t know how much longer Travis Kelce will be in uniform.”
Will Compton, Lewan’s podcast cohost, pointed out that Swift performing at the Super Bowl is particularly timely given Kansas City’s rough start to the 2025 season.
“The Chiefs aren’t likely to make it to the Super Bowl this year. Now is the perfect moment for Swift,” Compton emphasized. “It’s not like we’re preparing for a Chiefs Taylor Swift moment. The Chiefs aren’t going to be there this year—let’s get her on stage.”
Compton continued, “Let’s secure the halftime show for her instead of Bad Bunny. The public is questioning, ‘Who is Bad Bunny? Is he suitable for this platform? What’s happening with our game?’”
Adams, 39, posited that the reason Swift has yet to agree to the halftime slot might be directly linked to Kelce’s participation in the league.
“Do you think she’ll take that stage right after he retires?” Adams questioned.
Compton replied, “That makes a lot of sense. That’s a valid perspective.”
Recently, Bad Bunny was announced as the performer for the Super Bowl LX halftime show on Sunday, September 28.
“What I’m expressing goes beyond just me,” the Puerto Rican artist remarked in a statement. “It’s for those who paved the way for me, so I could step onto the field … this is for my community, my culture, and our shared legacy. Go and tell your grandmother, we will be the HALFTIME SHOW AT THE SUPER BOWL.”
The choice of Bad Bunny has sparked varied reactions, including former race car driver Danica Patrick’s comments on social media.
“How exciting,” Patrick, 42, stated on X on Sunday. “Songs in languages other than English should not be included in one of America’s most-watched television events of the year… it’s not just about sports.”
