Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced on Tuesday that Nick Reiner will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the tragic stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.

Prosecutors will highlight aggravating factors such as “multiple murders” and the use of a knife by Nick Reiner.

The charges could result in a maximum sentence of life without parole or even the death penalty, although Hochman emphasized that a final decision on pursuing the death penalty has not been made.

In California, the death penalty is rare, with the last execution taking place in 2016.

Hochman described prosecuting cases involving family members as incredibly challenging and heartbreaking due to the personal and often brutal nature of the crimes.

Rob Reiner was a beloved actor and director, while his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, was a renowned photographer and producer. Their tragic loss has deeply affected the entertainment industry, and the district attorney’s office is dedicated to seeking justice for their murders.

LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton confirmed that Nick Reiner was arrested without incident on Monday. However, details about Nick’s mental state or potential drug influence at the time of the incident were not disclosed.

At 32 years old, Nick Reiner has a history of substance abuse and was unable to attend a court hearing due to not being medically cleared.

Defense attorney Alan Jackson explained to reporters that Nick’s absence from court was a procedural issue related to medical clearance requirements for inmates.
