The highly anticipated Nintendo Museum is finally opening its doors in Kyoto, Japan on October 2nd. This museum is a tribute to the iconic Japanese company that has been captivating gamers since its inception in 1889, starting off as a playing card manufacturer. The museum, housed in a renovated factory, showcases the rich history of Nintendo and its beloved games and characters.

According to Forbes’ Ollie Barder, Nintendo’s 135-year history is uniquely extensive and varied, making it the perfect candidate for a dedicated museum. Visitors can expect a magical experience as they explore the three main sections of the museum. The “Learn” section delves into the company’s history, while “Experience” offers interactive exhibits. The “Create and Play” workshop allows visitors to unleash their creativity and make their own creations.

Renowned video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the mastermind behind Nintendo classics like “Super Mario” and “The Legend of Zelda,” emphasizes Nintendo’s distinctive style in an interview with the New York Times. The museum embodies Nintendo’s whimsical and accessible approach to gaming, celebrating the company’s unique identity.

Upon entering the museum, guests are given a card with coins that can be used to interact with various exhibits. From the “Zapper & Scope SP” to the “Big Controller,” visitors are in for a treat as they immerse themselves in the world of Nintendo. One standout exhibit is the “Big Controller,” where players must collaborate to navigate through games like “Zelda: A Link to the Past.”

In the workshop area, visitors can craft their own hanafuda playing cards, one of Nintendo’s earliest products. The history section showcases past Nintendo models, including nostalgic relics like the N64 controller and vintage game cartridges. The Guardian’s Keza Macdonald notes that these gaming artifacts serve as portals to cherished memories and experiences.

The museum aims to make gaming history accessible to all visitors, regardless of language or cultural background. Miyamoto emphasizes the importance of creating a space where people can interact and understand the world of Nintendo. With minimal written materials and no guided tours, the museum encourages exploration and discovery.

Overall, the Nintendo Museum promises a nostalgic journey through the company’s illustrious history, offering a unique blend of education and entertainment for gamers of all ages. Whether you’re a die-hard Nintendo fan or a casual gamer, this museum is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to celebrate the magic of Nintendo’s legendary legacy.
