The Unfortunate Attack on New Jersey Pet Store Owner
Recently, the owner of Birds by Joe 2 in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, Katarina Rukavishnikova, was the victim of a random and violent attack. This incident comes just a month after her store was robbed of a $7,000 parrot. The attack occurred on Monday evening when Rukavishnikova was shot in the face with a crossbow at her pet store.
Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting the injured woman and found her with a crossbow arrow lodged in her face. The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Raymond Carey, fled the scene but was apprehended the next day in Pine Beach, New Jersey, with the help of law enforcement agencies.
Raymond Carey has been charged with attempted murder and is awaiting his court appearance. Meanwhile, Rukavishnikova, despite being hospitalized after the attack, bravely returned to work the next day.
Repeat Customer Turned Attacker
Rukavishnikova revealed that the attacker was a regular customer at her store and shot her without warning. She emphasized that the incident was unrelated to the previous robbery and expressed shock at the sudden violence.
Following the January robbery where a thief stole an African Grey parrot from her store, Rukavishnikova has faced a string of unfortunate events. The stolen bird was later recovered by the police in Paterson, but the suspect, Onyx Calderon, remains at large.
Concern for the Well-being of the Bird
The stolen African Grey parrot, known for its intelligence and mimicry skills, was a prized possession at Birds by Joe 2. Rukavishnikova expressed more concern for the bird’s safety than the monetary loss incurred during the robbery.
Despite these challenges, Rukavishnikova remains resilient and determined to continue operating her pet store. The community has shown support for her during these trying times, and she remains focused on providing quality care for her feathered friends.
As the investigation into the attack continues, Rukavishnikova hopes for justice to be served and for the safety of her store and its inhabitants to be ensured.
