John Oliver recently took a jab at former Superman actor Dean Cain for his announcement that he plans to join ICE, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Oliver criticized ICE for its desperate attempts to hire new agents, including removing age limits and releasing what he called “gross recruitment ads.”

During a segment on his show “Last Week Tonight,” Oliver mocked Cain’s decision to join ICE, stating, “You know, there’s an old saying in Hollywood: if all you can get is Dean Cain, you are screwed.” He went on to express his disbelief at ICE resorting to hiring a 59-year-old actor known for his roles in “The Dog Who Saved…” movies.

While Cain is best known for his portrayal of Superman in the ’90s series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” he has since transitioned to starring in a series of television films featuring dogs in various holiday-themed adventures. Oliver jokingly suggested that Cain wouldn’t need to worry about concealing his identity while on duty, as the likelihood of anyone recognizing him is close to zero.

Despite Cain’s past success as a superhero on television, Oliver’s comments highlight the perceived absurdity of his decision to join ICE. The comedian’s humorous take on the situation underscores the challenges faced by ICE in recruiting new agents and the public perception of the agency.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how Cain’s decision to join ICE will be received by the public and whether it will have any impact on the agency’s operations.
