A tragic incident unfolds at a north Evergreen shopping center
Tragedy struck a medical office at a north Evergreen shopping center on Thursday evening as a man opened fire before fatally shooting himself. The incident led to a large police response and the closure of surrounding roads.
911 calls flooded in from witnesses at the shopping center located at 32314 Ellingwood Trail around 5 p.m., reporting gunshots, according to Jefferson County sheriff’s spokesperson Karlyn Tilley.
Authorities later confirmed that the shooting was isolated to the Common Spirit Primary Care Center within the shopping center premises.
Despite the chaos, no victims were found at the scene, and efforts are underway to identify the shooter, Tilley stated.
Fortunately, none of the individuals at the care center were harmed during the incident, as the shooter ultimately turned the gun on himself upon encountering law enforcement. It was noted that he did not engage with the officers, and no shots were fired by the police.
While no casualties were reported, the shooting has left a lasting impact on the community and law enforcement, Tilley acknowledged.
This latest incident comes just five months after a tragic shooting at Evergreen High School, where two students were seriously injured before the shooter took his own life.
For safety reasons, westbound Colorado 74 has been shut down between Old Highway 74 and Squaw Pass Road by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The situation is still developing, and updates may follow.
