“I had multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds,” shared Christen Phillips.
As a mother of three, Phillips is currently in the hospital recovering from a severe brain injury. Deputies report she was assaulted by a man wielding a baseball bat while she was working as a DoorDash delivery driver.
The alleged assailant, Stanley Shockley, 44, has been detained.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the attack occurred in broad daylight, with the suspect reportedly pursuing Phillips before striking her with the bat as she exited her car to deliver food.
The incident began on August 1 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Phillips was stopped at an intersection, waiting for the car ahead to move.
Authorities say Shockley was driving the vehicle in front of Phillips. After she honked to prompt him to move, events quickly escalated.
The sheriff’s office reported, “The vehicle moved out of her way and began following her.”
Upon reaching her delivery location, Phillips completed her task and attempted to return to her car. It was then that Shockley allegedly emerged, attacked her with the bat, and fled the scene.
“He came around to my door with a small wooden bat or baton and beat me in the head and face with it,” Phillips recounted in a social media post.
“I don’t remember it at all. I woke up an unverified amount of time later,” she added.
Despite her injuries, Phillips managed to drive herself to a nearby hospital.
“I had multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds, with blood and cerebral fluid draining from my left ear for hours. My cheek bone on my left side is also fractured,” she explained.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Shockley’s arrest on Monday in connection with the attack.
He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, according to records.
Sheriff Chris Thomas commented:
“We understand the public does not see what goes into every investigation, and a case like this can make citizens uneasy. We appreciate the number of tips and leads the public provided us.
“Our detectives follow every lead, carefully work through the evidence, and continue to pursue answers even when the investigation presents challenges. Their hard work ultimately led them to identify a suspect and make an arrest.”
In a statement to Fox News Digital, a DoorDash spokesperson remarked, “What this Dasher went through is horrific, and we’re relieved she’s safe and on the road to recovery. We’re grateful to law enforcement for making an arrest and will continue to assist their investigation in any way we can.”
