Authorities apprehended a man from North Carolina nearly six months after he reportedly disconnected his IV and sprayed HIV-positive blood at two hospital workers while undergoing treatment for diabetes, as detailed in various reports.

Kameron Gilchrist, 25, was taken into custody on September 11 and faces two charges for assaulting emergency personnel during an unusual episode at The University of North Carolina’s REX hospital on March 21, as outlined in an arrest warrant.

According to the warrant, Gilchrist allegedly yanked his IV line from his arm and “sprayed HIV blood into the eyes of the victim” while the healthcare workers were “discharging their official duties,” as reported by People.

It remains uncertain whether the HIV-positive blood was Gilchrist’s or if the two hospital staff members were exposed to HIV as a result of the incident.

Raleigh police indicated that the delay in booking Gilchrist was due to his ongoing medical and psychiatric treatment at the time of the occurrence, as reported by WRAL News.
