A tragic incident occurred in Raleigh, North Carolina, where a beloved science teacher, Zoe Welsh, lost her life at the hands of a career criminal intruder. Welsh, who had dedicated 20 years to teaching, was found with life-threatening injuries after a burglary at her home early Saturday morning.
According to police reports, Welsh called 911 to report the intruder in her house. While she was on the phone with dispatchers, the attacker began to assault her, leading to her tragic death. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Welsh succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect, Ryan Camacho, aged 36, was arrested nearby and charged with murder and felony burglary. Camacho has a lengthy criminal history, with at least two dozen arrests and a previous conviction for escaping from a prison in Salisbury, NC in 2021. A separate breaking and entering case against Camacho was dismissed just last month after he was found unfit to proceed.
Welsh’s friend, Olivia Alvarez, who also worked in Welsh’s home as a house cleaner, expressed her determination to seek justice for her friend. She vowed that Camacho would pay for his heinous actions.
Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce extended his condolences to Welsh’s family and emphasized the unimaginable trauma they must be enduring. Welsh had been teaching AP biology and forensic science at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh since 2006 and was a mentor to many in the community.
Tributes poured in for Welsh, who had been a teacher since 1992. The school where she worked announced that grief counselors would be available for students and staff to cope with the loss. The investigation into Welsh’s death is ongoing, with authorities working to bring justice for the beloved teacher who dedicated her life to education.
