Nvidia to Acquire AI Chip Startup Groq for $20 Billion

In a monumental move, Nvidia has announced its plans to purchase the AI chip startup Groq for a staggering $20 billion, as reported by CNBC. This acquisition is set to be Nvidia’s largest ever and is expected to further solidify its position as a powerhouse in the realm of chip manufacturing.

The race for AI supremacy among tech giants continues to intensify, with a growing demand for robust computing power. Nvidia’s GPUs have long been the go-to choice in the industry. However, Groq has been making waves with its development of a unique chip known as an LPU (language processing unit). Groq claims that its LPU is capable of running LLMs (large language models) a remarkable 10 times faster while consuming just a fraction of the energy. Groq’s CEO, Jonathan Ross, has a track record of pioneering innovations, having played a key role in the creation of Google’s TPU (tensor processing unit), a specialized AI accelerator chip.

Just a few months ago, Groq successfully secured $750 million in funding, valuing the company at $6.9 billion. The company’s rapid growth is evident, with over 2 million developers now utilizing its AI applications, a significant increase from the previous year’s 356,000 users.

When approached for comment, Nvidia remained tight-lipped about the impending acquisition.
