Early Thursday morning, an apartment fire in Brooklyn critically injured two young women and left three others with injuries, according to local authorities.
The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. in a four-story building located on Eastern Parkway near Troy Avenue in Crown Heights, resulting in the two women, ages 24 and 26, suffering from severe smoke inhalation and being reported in critical condition. This information was confirmed by both the FDNY and NYPD.
Emergency services transported both critically injured women to Kings County Hospital Center. Additionally, a 55-year-old woman who was also found inside the building was taken to Staten Island University Hospital South and is currently in stable condition, police reported.
Sources indicate that the older woman may be related to the 24-year-old victim.
In addition, one civilian was transported to Interfaith Hospital with minor injuries, while a fifth individual declined medical assistance, fire authorities reported.
The fire response mobilized approximately a dozen FDNY units, which included around 60 firefighters and police officers at the scene.
By 2:15 a.m., firefighters had the blaze under control, though the investigation into its cause is ongoing.
