A 9-year-old girl managed to escape a masked kidnapper while walking to school in Queens. She quickly ran to her mom, who works as a school crossing guard, for safety, according to police and sources.
The incident occurred at the southwest corner of 34th Avenue and 93rd Street in North Corona around 7:40 a.m. when a gray-haired individual wearing a black mask approached the girl in a black sedan, authorities reported.
“Come inside the car,” the man called out to the young girl, as per police statements.
Despite the man’s attempts to grab her after getting out of his car, the girl courageously ran to her mom, who was stationed at a nearby school, police sources revealed.
The attempted kidnapper drove away, heading north on 93rd Street, according to the police.
The girl’s mother contacted the authorities, but the suspect remained at large as of Wednesday afternoon, officials stated.
The suspect is described as approximately 5-foot-9 in height.
This alarming incident occurred just weeks after a man armed with a blade attempted to abduct a 2-year-old girl at Atlantic Avenue and 109th Street in Richmond Hill, threatening the child’s mother with violence, according to authorities and sources.
The suspect, identified as Peter Vonderhofen, 32, was apprehended about 30 minutes later, as per police reports.
