The family of a Bronx hospital patient claims she was fatally assaulted by her roommate, who had a documented history of violent incidents.
Cynthia Vann, 55, was attacked while sleeping in her room at Lincoln Hospital in Mott Haven, sustaining serious injuries that required emergency surgery on September 10, as reported by News 12.
At the time of the incident, Vann was undergoing treatment for liver issues at the facility.
She suffered severe head injuries and remained hospitalized for two weeks before succumbing to her injuries on September 27.
“It’s devastating. I feel shattered inside. This is incredibly hard. My mom was my anchor; she was my everything,” expressed her daughter, Taneisha Vann, to News 12.
“She didn’t deserve this. Nobody deserves to be attacked while they’re trying to rest in a hospital,” Taneisha added. “You should feel secure in such a place.”
According to reports, Vann’s death was attributed to blunt force trauma to the head, as noted by the medical examiner’s office.
Her passing has been classified as a homicide.
The hospital disclosed to Taneisha the violent history of the roommate involved in the attack.
It remains unclear whether any charges have been filed against the suspect related to Vann’s death.
The Post has contacted the NYPD for further details.
Taneisha expressed her frustration towards the hospital for failing to provide a safe environment for patients.
“I’m furious with the hospital for allowing this to happen,” she declared.
“My mother’s birthday is coming up on the 9th. She would have turned 56, and it’s all the more difficult as she didn’t deserve this,” Taneisha lamented.
This tragic incident occurred just days before a 95-year-old dementia patient fatally assaulted her 89-year-old roommate at a nursing home in Coney Island.
Nina Kravtsov, a Holocaust survivor, was tragically injured at Seagate Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on September 14 when Galina Smirnova assaulted her with a metal pedal from her wheelchair.
A nursing assistant discovered Kravtsov shortly after 10 p.m., lying in bed with severe head trauma.
Kravtsov was rushed to NYU Brooklyn Hospital but sadly passed away the following morning.
Smirnova was found in the bathroom of their shared room washing her hands.
This nonagenarian faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon and was subsequently ordered to be held in the Bellevue Hospital jail ward following her arraignment on September 17.
